Comic Con 09

So its another year of the biggest pop culture event Comic Con in San Diego. Comic Con is not just nerds with smelly armpits discussing the latest comic book news. It has become one of the biggest events for movie news and trailers! Movie stars were in full force the first 2 days at Comic Con. You had Johnny Depp to Kristen Stewart and the whole Twilight cast! Early word is that Twilight has ruled the Comic Con buzz. There were reports of lines so long to get into the Twilight Q and A. But besides the vampire followers of Twilight to me the big news was the release of the first Alice in Wonderland trailer! So here is the long awaited Alice in Wonderland trailer, brought to you by http://www.traileraddict.com/

Also another trailer released at Comic Con was Ninja Assassin. Here is a quick synopsis of the story. Ninja Assassin follows Raizo, the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained assassin by the Ninjas of the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. This film is produced by The Wachowski brothers who also brought us The Matrix trilogy. And a familiar name to the comic world helped pen the script J. Michael Straczynski. Looks pretty badass from this early trailer. With that said here is the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Yes comics and comic cons have become semi mainstream! With the likes of The Dark Knight and Iron Man movies. Everyone these days knows of comic books and there movie lines. So if you have never been to a comic store I suggest you go and just look around. You will find some great reading material. And it seems Hollywood these days is buying up every good comic that is out there to be made into a movie. So for me comic books and movies go hand in hand now.

Until next time....Same blog spot and same blog time....

Watchmen DVD released!!

The Watchmen DVD is released today. With that being said the Watchmen (Director's Cut) (Two-Disc Special Edition + Amazon Digital Bundle + Digital Copy) is suppose to be the way we all should see this film. I can't wait to see the full directors cut. The Director's cut has a running time of 186 minutes and it is how Zack Snyder intended on the movie to be seen.

Everyone thought this would never work as a film, but I think Zack Snyder delivered with The Watchmen. And I'm sure with this Directors cut of the film I will believe that even more. So I will be out getting a copy of this Directors cut and screaming out The world will look up and shout "Save us!"... And I'll whisper "No."

Here is a short summary of The Watchmen

Someone’s killing our masked super heroes. The year is 1985 and super heroes- The Watchmen- have banded together to respond to the murder of one of their own. They soon uncover a sinister plot that puts all of humanity in grave danger. The Watchmen fight to stop the impending doom only to find themselves a target for annihilation. But, if our super heroes are gone, who will save us? And who watchs The Watchmen?!?

So go out and get yourself a copy of The Watchmen(Director's cut) and just enjoy the ride! I know I will be!

Harry Potter making money and Bruno losing out...

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince made $79.5 million over the weekend. And it did a whooping $159.7 million since its Wednesday release. Which is surprising since it is said this is the darkest of all the Harry Potter films. That didn't stop people from seeing it. From kids to adults, they all went out at 12am or this weekend to see there favorite wizard named Harry on the big screen. The same can't be said for Sacha Baron Coen's Bruno. Bruno only made a dismal $8 million on its second weekend. I have not seen it, but from what I heard on its opening weekend people were walking out of the theater before it end. So we can say Bruno = FAIL. I'm sure Mr. Potter and his mates will be raking in the money this following weekend as well.

Comic book movie news

So last week it became official Ryan Reynolds will play the Green Lantern. Looks like Reynolds will get to play a DC comics hero and a Marvel hero, that's if the Deadpool movie is moving foward. I think Ryan Reynolds will do good in both roles. I can see him as Hal Jordan and I can see him as Wade Wilson. Which we got a preview of him as Wade Wilson in Wolverine: Origins. So I am looking forward to both these films when they do come out.

Natalie Portman also officially is going to be in the new Thor movie in pre production now. She will be playing Jane Foster Thor's first love. This film has the potential to be an Epic film. Yes it is more fantasy than Iron Man, but I think this movie will be just as good as Iron Man.

Speaking of Iron Man, they have finished shooting Iron Man 2. I'm hoping they can deliver a great sequel as did Christopher Nolan did with The Dark Knight. From early reports and pictures it is looking like it will be. This movie will have tons of star power. From Robert Downey Jr. to Don Cheadle to Mickey Rourke and the ever so hot Scarlett Johansson. We can only wait for the first trailer to get super geeked out and excited. I will be waiting.....

G.I. Joe and summer time blues....

So the more I read or see stuff on G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra the more I think it is going to be a disaster. First off you have the "X-men looking super suits" which look so ridiculous, since when did G.I. Joe turn into Iron Men? And the suits are based of the G.I. Joe cartoon Sigma 6, which also was made into a comic book by http://devilsdue.net/

BUT I'm sure everyone who grew up in the 80's wanted this movie to be like the 80's cartoon. Will it be? I'm not sure, but I highly doubt it. To me it looks like a big pile of dog sh*t, but that is just me. The one thing that caught my eye and looks totally bad ass is Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes is played by Ray Park, who also played the bad ass Sith Jedi Darth Maul. So come August 7th 2009 is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Will you be seeing it? Or would you rather go to the dentist and get a root canal. Now that is a tough choice! But I MIGHT see it just for Snake Eyes. But I'm not going to hold my breath that this film will kick ass! I want it too, but I can't bring myself to believe it will. 80's fans lets hope I'm wrong!

Now to another movie coming out in August District 9. The more I see trailers for this film. The more I'm getting excited to see it. I still don't know all what it is about, but it looks different and intriguing. I think the less we know of this movie the better. Makes me as want to see it more the less I know. But I will post any updates of this film. Check out there viral website http://www.d-9.com/

Tonight at 12 Midnight
As the clock strikes 12 a.m. All the Hogwarts and Potter lovers will be out in your local theater casting spells and loving the newest installment of the Harry Potter series. I for one have not seen any of these films. I actually would like to read the books before I check out all the films. But from what I've seen in the trailers this movie looks pretty dam awesome! I've heard from fans of the Harry Potter series of books and films. That all these films stay true to the "actual" novels. And I believe its true with the millions of dollars these films and books make! Damn you J.K. Rowling, why didn't I think of some boy wizard going to some school!!!

Well have fun all you Potter fans who at Midnight will be in Potter heaven! While the rest of us sleep and drink the night away.

DVD news and notes
Just released on DVD was Knowing starring Nicholas Cage. Here is a quick summary of the story- A teacher opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's elementary school. The boy gets a paper full of numbers and later on that night Cage's character starts to realise these numbers are dates to horrible events. Some that have already occurred and others that are about to. This leads him to believe his family plays a role in the events that are about to unfold.

This film was a good film that did not get alot of press. I watched it last night and really enjoyed the whole story. A good storyline, good special effects and suspense full and entertaining all in one.

Survived the Weekend! Now its time for trailers!

I hope everyone had a fun filled 4th of July. So if you are not too hungover or to full from cookouts all weekend, look at what I have in store for you today. I wanted to post a few trailers for some remaining summertime movies and for your viewing pleasure! Forget your work and everything else and take a look at these films. From bat smashing soldiers, to aliens on earth, to Woody from Cheers fighting Zombies. Here are some Trailers for your eyes.

Here is the trailer for Inglorious Bastards a film by Quentin Tarantino. This movie will be full of violence and plenty of F-bombs. Lets see if Quentin can deliver here. Since Death Proof felt like an hour of chicks talking about nothing.

Here is a look at a interesting movie called District 9. Peter Jackson is the producer of District 9. What is this film all about? I'm not to sure but does look interesting! It has a documentary feel to the trailer, but keeps you wondering what these aliens are doing here. I have faith in Peter Jackson to produce a good film. Just take a glance and make up your own mind.

Here is Zombieland starring Woody Harrelson, I know it doesn't come out till October but this movie just looks like kick-ass and laughs! I'm looking foward to this film. Looks funny and gory all in one!

July 3rd in Movieland....

Well its about to be July 4th. That means cookouts, fireworks, beer and summer movies are in full effect. And this week a movie I've been wanting to see since the day I saw the first trailer is Public Enemies. Starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard. This film is directed by Michael Mann. It is a story about the infamous bank robber John Dillinger. From early reviews it seems to be a good movie! I am hoping so, I will be seeing it later this July 4th weekend and I will post my thoughts on it then. I hope this film follows in the steps of some of Michael Mann's previous films like Last of the Mochicans, Heat, and Collateral. And not in the same footsteps as Miami Vice, which was a bomb to say the least.

Now to my thoughts on the Transformers 2 Autobot Twin controversy. I feel they were not needed in the film one bit, yes they do sound like some guys from the hood or the hip hop generation. BUT people remember they are ROBOTS!!! and its a fictional story about alien ROBOTS!!! People these days just need to relax and enjoy the film for what it is. With this said Transformers 2 was not as good as the first one, but it was quite entertaining. So if you are looking to be entertained and see some good special effects this is the film for you.

DVD news and notes

So released this week was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. I can only assume these film is not even worth watching. NO I have not seen it. Only thing maybe appealing to it would be seeing Kristin Kreuk kick some ass! So watch at your own risk!! If I were you I would rent or buy Gran Torino(which I talked about in my last post) or Taken. Those two films will entertain and deliver for you.

So everyone have a safe July 4th. Shoot off those fireworks, eat some much food you can't move and have a beer for some Independence.
